How much does Venetian plaster cost?

The honest answer begins with the surface, the finish, and the care it takes to make the two belong together.

At Terra Alto Living, basic Venetian plaster for walls and ceilings starts at $15 per square foot of finished surface, with a $3,500 project minimum for that work. Standalone Venetian plaster hoods start at $2,500 and are quoted for their form and finish. For sufficiently large wall scopes, a custom quote may bring the rate down to $12.50 per square foot.

Measure the surfaces to be plastered, not the floor area of the room. An accent wall, a ceiling, and a curved kitchen hood with similar square footage are different projects to execute.

What changes the price?

Preparation. A polished surface reveals imperfections. Wall condition, repairs, the required level of smoothness, and primer all affect the work before the first plaster coat.

Finish. A quiet matte marmorino, a softly luminous satin surface, and a highly polished finish require different materials, steps, and time. Samples help settle the intended color, movement, and sheen.

Geometry and access. Arches, returns, corners, niches, hoods, high walls, and ceilings demand more attention than an open, uninterrupted wall. Scaffolding and protection may also be needed.

Scale. A small feature still requires mobilization, protection, materials, and return visits between coats. That is why wall and ceiling projects have a minimum.

What should you budget?

For walls and ceilings, allow at least $3,500 for the project minimum. Once the area supports that minimum, basic Venetian plaster starts at $15 per square foot. A standalone hood starts at $2,500. On a sufficiently large wall scope, the quoted rate can be as low as $12.50 per square foot. There is no automatic size cutoff: the surface condition, access, and intended finish determine the actual proposal.

If you are planning an architectural feature, a polished surface, or a whole-home finish, send photographs and any drawings before settling on a number. We can then discuss what the space calls for and prepare a scope that reflects the actual work.
